Speaking as an adoptee: thank you so much, your article. It helped me a lot. People always told me to be thankful that I got adopted and I resented them for saying that. I had difficulty to bond with my adoptive family but also the country were I was taken too never felt like home, though I thought it was all me, not being appreciating enough….

WISH I HAD READ THIS POST NINE YEARS AGO!!!!
When we brought my daughter home from China I had no idea about RAD and would not have thought she – at ten months – would have had it…
I went through years where I could not put her down yet could not bond.
Thank goodness for the knowledge that is out there now (and that we finally found) and for people like you who tell the truth.

I just want to start out with saying I can not believe the horrid things people have said about your adoption! This is the first article of yours that I have read but I will now have to check out your others. You sound like an amazing women with an amazing family. It couldn’t be an easy thing to take on another’s child and raise them as your own but clearly you are doing it, and doing a great job of it! From someone that has wanted to foster/ adopt since I was very young, your an inspiration. Thankyou for making this world a better place!

We have 7 children of whom 2 are adopted. Ours was not international but your list was spot on for us. I felt like a crazy person for several years 🙂 I learned so much through the experience that I would absolutely adopt again but it was HARD and we questioned. We started out as foster parents and there were many times I wanted to quit but just couldn’t bring myself to do it 🙂

Amen!! We are going on 5 years this November from when we first brought our then 7 year old special needs daughter from the Philippines. I learned that just because God brings you to something doesn’t mean it will be easy. I somehow believed that in God’s will equaled easy- HA! But I will say that I have come across plenty of domestic adoptions that also have these same issues. It’s not unique to international adoption. And with all that being said, I would totally adopt again!
