This year, our little homeschool will be smaller than ever with The Ferrari (age 16) and Fred (age 14) going off to a brick and mortar school. That leaves these five students still learning at home:
Miss Optimism is 9 years old. She loves art and mystery books (Nancy Drew is her current favourite). Her goal for the year is to learn to read on her own. She is also looking forward to our unit study on horses. Despite many challenges including a neurodevelopmental disorder and a severe lung condition, Miss Optimism continues to inspire and impress us and others with her determination and positive attitude. I have no doubt that this girl will be able to do anything she sets her mind to!
Einstein is 9 years old. He loves history, fixing things, figuring out how things work, and anything related to the Titanic. Despite occasional struggles due to his Asperger’s, Einstein continues to make tremendous progress. His goal for the year is to master multiplication. It is sure to be a fun year ahead for Einstein with the kinds of things I have planned for Science and Social Studies!
Snuggle Puppy is 9 years old. He loves sports and anything outside. His goal for the year is to learn to read and improve in math. He is looking forward to learning about the human body. Snuggle Puppy is of course looking forward to all sports-related activities such as swimming lessons, gymnastics classes, and baseball.
Granola Girl is 6 years old. She loves climbing trees and swinging from bars, ropes, trees, and cupboards. We are anticipating that she will like gymnastics!!! Her goal for the year is to play and somersault her way around the house (I shouldn’t have asked!). My goal for her is to learn to read. She is most looking forward to our unit study on penguins, as she has been obsessed with penguins for three years.
Dancing Queen is 6 years old. She loves to sing and dance and help around the house (strange, but true). Her goal for the year is to dance in the living room. (I probably should have known that one.) My goal for her this year is to improve her speech. She is most looking forward to making up more songs about Jesus and learning more about Jesus.
Though I have mixed feelings about The Ferrari and Fred going off to school this year, I think it will be interesting to be able to gear things completely towards our three 9 year olds and two 6 year olds. I am anticipating a great year!
