I have often said that I was born in the wrong decade. Things move so quickly now and I think I was made for a simpler time. Not to mention that I think I would look awfully cute in those 50s style dresses! However, even in this fast-paced society present day, there are things that we can do to return to a bit of a simpler life.

Can't Keep Up? 7 Ways to Simplify Your Life

In the vein of keeping things simple, I am going to keep this list incredibly short and simple. 6 D’s and an all-important U…

  1. Declutter. Less stuff really does translate into more joy.
  2. Delegate. Whether it be to coworkers, virtual assistants, family or friends, or your kids: delegate. I have a hard time letting go and I have a tendency to think that I’m the only one who can do certain things or at least the only one who can do them properly! but I need to delegate, especially when it comes to my kids because they need to learn how to do things and I can’t do it all.
  3. Decrease Expectations. Perfection is not an option. Make your to-do list shorter. Expect less of yourself. This will actually allow you to give more of yourself.
  4. Decrease Spending. Make a budget and stick to it. This will free up time, money and emotional energy.
  5. Downsize your schedule. Re-evaluate your time commitments and let something (or more than one thing) go.
  6. Do one Thing at a Time. Multi-tasking is a myth. Our brains can focus well on one thing at a time. You will actually get more done by trying to do less.
  7. Unplug. One hour a week, one day a week, or one weekend a week, unplug from all electronics.
