Creating a bucket list is a concept that has been gaining popularity in recent years. A bucket list is a list of things you want to do before you die (kick the bucket). They can be a good way to ensure that your life is richer and more fulfilling, but a bucket list is only effective at improving your life if you actually cross things off the list. Writing the list isn’t the same as living the list.
This challenge is a two part-er. The first is that if you have a bucket list already, you pull it out and read it. If you don’t already have a bucket list, make one. There are no rules on this. This is your bucket list. It can be made as a collage or vision board using pictures out of magazines. It can be a typewritten official document. It can be written on a napkin.
It has to be specific to you though. There are all kinds of fun bucket lists you can find and print off online. I’ve even shared some of our own family bucket lists, but those are not the types of bucket lists I’m referring to. I’m talking about the things that YOU have always dreamed of doing, what you want to accomplish before you die. Your list should be unique to you.
Your list could include countries you want to visit or landmarks you want to see. It could comprise of learning goals, relationship milestones, adventures, grand accomplishments, or even small things you’ve been curious about trying.
Just to get your creative juices flowing…
Is there a language you want to learn?
A country you want to visit?
A landmark you want to see first-hand?
Someone you want to help?
Someone you want to meet?
A fitness goal you want to achieve?
A skill you want to learn?
An activity you want to try?
A career you want?
A strange food you’ve always wanted to try?
Sport you want to take up?
Someone you need to tell your feelings to or forgive?
A volunteer position you want to do?
A book you want to write?
Debt you want to pay off?
A passion you want to pursue?
Part two of this challenge is to actually do something on your bucket list so that you can cross it off! There are things on your list that may take years to accomplish such as getting a degree or running a marathon, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take the first step towards that today. Enrol in university or upgrade your marks in order to enrol. Take a beginner running class. Take the first step towards those long term goals.
There are likely things on your bucket list that really can be done today. If you have always wanted to go skydiving or bungee jumping or ride in a helicopter or hot air balloon, pick up the phone and book it right now. If you want to learn an instrument, start lessons today. If money is an issue, there are now lots of online options for free music lessons. Pack your bags and head out on that road trip you keep putting off. Call up that old friend to mend fences. Learn how to knit (YouTube will teach you all you need to know!).
