What a great post (and timely--my husband and I were talking about changing up the bedtime routine just yesterday). I, myself, remember being tucked in up until age 15 or 16, and plan to tuck my boys in that long (they're four and six). That's how you stay connected. Simple as that!

Thanks for this reminder, Sharla. I'm thankful my 12 year old still hates going to bed without a tuck-in... and on the days where I might wish just for a minute that I could just send him to bed, I'm reminded of all the great conversations I had with my mom at night when the house was quiet and I had her attention - even when I was in my later teens! I would be interested in a post where you talk about how you do meaningful tuck-ins with multiple children. I find that with my younger girls generally going to bed at the same time and sharing the same room, I feel as though I don't have the opportunity to do the deeper talks with each of them due to distractions and time...

Thank you for this reminder! I have lots of regrets as a Mommy...I think any of us who are worth the price of a bean have regrets. I wish I could go back with my 11 year old and be less worried about trying to be sure he did everything perfectly and let him make more toddler messes that my younger children are making now.

Again, thank you for this reminder!

All I can say is WOW! Everything you said is true...we have probably all wasted time and opportunities with our kids. But I don't think you should beat yourself up for it. We do the best we can. I'm so blessed, my 17 year old still allows me to tuck him in a night or two a week. He knows it makes me happy to get to do that. So he endures...deep down I think he likes it but won't admit it. Thanks for sharing and please know that your kids are very blessed to have you as a mom.
