Spaghetti Pie

Spaghetti Pie is one of the first real meals I ever learned how to make. It was one of those recipes that got passed from someone to my aunt, who made a few changes to it and passed it on to my mom, who made a few changes to it and passed it on to me. I’ve already made a change or two in getting it ready to pass on to my kids.spaghetti pie cut in pie piecesThe recipe I have calls for a loonie size amount of spaghetti. For those who don’t know, the loonie is the Canadian one dollar coin, not to be confused with its sister, the twonie, the two dollar coin. The loonie’s diameter is 26.5 mm.spaghetti noodles held in a fist over a pot of boiling water Since this is a strange way to measure pasta and most of my readers are American, I have estimated that it is 3 oz. of spaghetti.

Spaghetti Pie Ingredients

  • Spaghetti – Adds a delicious and hearty base to the pie.
  • Butter – Adds richness and flavor to the dish. It helps to coat the spaghetti and enhance its taste.
  • Parmesan Cheese –  Helps to bind the ingredients together.
  • Egg – The beaten egg is used as a binding agent in the recipe. It helps to hold the spaghetti and other ingredients together as the pie bakes.
  • Lean Ground Beef – The half-pound of lean ground beef adds protein and a savory taste to the spaghetti pie.
  • Onion – The onion is sautéed along with the ground beef to provide a delicious base.
  • Garlic – Enhances the overall taste of the dish.
  • Tomato Sauce – Serves as the base for the sauce that coats the spaghetti.
  • Oregano, Basil, and Parsley: These herbs add a burst of flavor to this recipe.
  • Salt and Pepper – They add a balance of saltiness and spice to the spaghetti pie.
