As simple as that, you can create penne a la vodka at home and it will taste every bit as good as what you would order in a restaurant.
Ingredients
2Tbsp.olive oil
3slicesof prosciuttothinly sliced
1onionchopped
4clovesof garlicsliced
2x 28 oz. cans crushed tomatoes
1/4cupvodka
1/2cupwhipping creamwhipping it first is optional
red chili flakes
saltpepper
1-2Tbsp.fresh basilchopped
1bag of penne
optional: parmesan cheese
Instructions
Heat olive oil in large skillet. Add the sliced prosciutto and fry for a few minutes. Add the onions and garlic and saute for a few minutes.
Stir in both cans of crushed tomatoes and seasonings (basil, salt, pepper, and chili flakeand bring to a boil.
Pour in the vodka and boil for a few minutes. Reduce heat to low and stir in the whipping cream.
Here's where it gets really good...the whipping cream. You can either stir it in just like it is or you can whip it first and then fold it in gently.
When I have the time and the equipment, I always whip it first because it makes the sauce lighter and fluffier and just that much better, but it still tastes good without the whipping. It creates a nice creamy red sauce.
Meanwhile, cook the penne according to package directions. You can of course make this with gluten free penne.
Serve the sauce on top of the penne. If you want to (I do!), add some parmesan or asiago cheese on top and sprinkle with more red chili flakes to finish.
